Compassionate Periodontal Care
Benefits of Receiving Periodontal Care
Periodontal care not only helps to improve the condition of your gums and overall oral health, but it can also help alleviate the pain and tenderness associated with gum disease. When combined with a regular at-home hygiene routine, treatments for periodontitis and related concerns can help remove harmful plaque and tartar buildup under the gumline, tighten expanded and swollen gum tissue, and help gums reattach to the roots of teeth.
The symptoms of periodontitis can cause consistent discomfort. They include the following:
Types of Periodontal Care We Offer
At Whitestown Dental Care, we provide our patients with preventive, diagnostic, and maintenance treatments for periodontitis. During your exam, your dentist or hygienist will measure the space in between your teeth and gums using an instrument called a probe. X-rays may also be taken to determine the health of the bone underneath the gumline.
If minor gum inflammation is observed, your dentist will likely recommend regular preventive care such as dental cleanings, brushing and flossing, and antimicrobial mouthwash.
For moderate to severe cases, we offer other non-surgical gum procedures such as full mouth debridement, in which excess accumulations of dental plaque and calculus are removed, and root planning, in which the exposed sections of your teeth’s roots are smoothed and cleaned to facilitate healing. This may also help the gum and teeth reattach.
After periodontal health improves, your dentist may recommend periodontal maintenance treatments every three to six months, which simply involves a more intensive cleaning than those received through preventive dental care.
